Design That Unites
A tequila born of a shared, historic struggle that miraculously unified Mexico and Ireland, our challenge was to honor this extraordinary story of valor while celebrating the exquisite taste of Irlandés Tequila. Irlandés in English translates to, Irish. Irish Tequila, some might say, ‘that’s an oxymoron’ when really, it’s a perfect match.

Irlandés Tequila has a singular, uncommon power, the ability to bring people, places and things together in celebration of solidarity. The brand’s promise is The Spirit That Unites. Our solution is anchored in communicating why the sacred water from St. Patrick’s well in Ireland combines with the hand sourced blue agave from the renowned Los Altos region in Mexico and is distilled at the famous Tequila El Mexicano distillery with natural, French yeast. All this is done in reverence to an historic event. In 1847, the two unlikely forces of six Mexican boys and 50 Irish soldiers found themselves defending the flag of Mexico. They were hopelessly outnumbered. Francis O’Connor, a dying soldier from the Irish battalion, was anointed by a Mexican priest with holy water that O’Connor had carried with him from a sacred well in his motherland. Incredibly, it is this water from that exact same source that Irlandés Tequila is made. Among the many other feats of valor that day, one boy, Juan Escutia, defied his captors, wrapped himself in his nation’s flag and leapt to his death from the top of Chapultepec Castle in front of the Irish fighters, uniting Ireland and Mexico.
